An art gallery is currently hosting a unique exhibition that showcases artwork inspired by dementia. The artist behind this exhibition, Connor Daly, has created a series of still life photographs that he describes as a 'statement about Alzheimer's disease. ' Connor's work is deeply personal, drawing from his own experiences and various cultural references related to dementia. The exhibition is located at Greve de Lecq Barracks and aims to provide local artists with a platform to display their creations while fostering connections within the community. Connor's photography prominently features 'memory objects,' which are items commonly found in the care of individuals living with dementia. He explains, 'People who have dementia and are being looked after in care homes will have a memory box with different objects inside. ' These memory boxes are designed to assist with cognitive functions and help individuals recall important memories. Connor's series is not only a personal statement but also reflects the extensive research he has conducted on dementia, amounting to around 20,000 words. All proceeds from the sale of his artwork will be donated to Dementia Jersey, an organization dedicated to supporting those affected by dementia. Connor is passionate about using his photography to give back to meaningful causes. He stated, 'I have always said if I can do anything with photography, I would always try and give something back to causes I believe in. ' This commitment to charity is evident in his practice, as he consistently aims to donate a portion of his sales to support various charitable organizations. Another local artist featured in the exhibition is Max Corbett, who specializes in oil paintings. Max describes his work as capturing the vibrant energy of city life. He expressed his excitement about the exhibition, saying, 'It is always exciting to show them off and get new people to interact with the work. ' The exhibition is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00 GMT, providing an opportunity for visitors to engage with the artwork and learn more about the impact of dementia. In addition to the exhibition, there is another captivating art installation in St Helier, where colorful shirts are displayed hanging from buildings. This artwork, created by Kaarina Kaikkonen, features shirts of various colors, designs, and sizes, creating a striking visual display. Some of the shirts even touch the ground, adding to the immersive experience. One shirt is accompanied by a postcard that reads, 'When I look at this shirt, I think of my beloved dad who passed away in May this year. I love you daddy. H. ' This poignant message highlights how art can serve as a powerful medium for remembrance and emotional expression.
