Union members are urging the council to reconsider and appeal the judge's decision. The council has promised to announce their decision regarding an appeal on Thursday. One union member, who also represents the Westminster Street Performers Association, expressed understanding for those who may be disturbed by excessive noise. However, he firmly believes that street performers contribute positively to the community by providing entertainment, reducing crime rates, and attracting more tourists and business to the area. Simeon Scheuber-Rush, the London Regional Officer for the Musicians' Union, emphasized that musicians are passionate about their craft and do not wish to be viewed as a nuisance. He stated that he and the union members are eager to work 'collaboratively and cordially' with the council to address any concerns that may arise. The proposed suspension of street performances will apply to all buskers, whether they are licensed or not, in Leicester Square. Those who do not comply with the new regulations may face serious consequences, including fines, confiscation of their equipment, or revocation of their performance licenses. Labour councillor Matt Noble clarified that street performers are not being banned throughout Westminster, but rather in this specific area. The buskers hope that their music will continue to be a cherished part of the lively atmosphere in Leicester Square, and they are determined to fight for their right to perform.
