A striking new mural of Freddie Mercury has been unveiled at Wembley Park, celebrating what would have been the legendary singer's 80th birthday. The artwork, titled 'I'm Mr Mercury,' is an impressive 30 feet tall and stretches across all 58 steps of the Spanish Steps near Wembley Stadium. Created by street artist Frank Styles, the mural is anamorphic, which means that Freddie Mercury's face only comes together when viewed from a specific spot about 65 feet away. From any other angle, the image breaks apart into colorful lines and shapes, making it a unique and interactive piece of art.

Frank Styles, who is known for his creative street art, hand-sprayed the mural in four separate sections before combining them into one large image. The mural not only honors Mercury's musical legacy with Queen but also includes personal touches that reflect his life offstage. For example, the orange and blue koi carp painted on the steps represent Mercury's love for Japan and the Japanese pond he had at his London home. There are also winged female figures, which are a nod to his Virgo star sign, a symbol he used in the Queen crest that he designed himself. Lyrics from Queen's songs and famous quotes from Mercury run up the steps, leading visitors toward the stadium.

Freddie Mercury, born on September 5, 1946, performed at Wembley many times with Queen. The band played ten shows at the venue, which was once called the Empire Pool, between 1978 and 1984. One of their most famous performances was at Live Aid in July 1985, which is still remembered as one of the greatest rock concerts ever. Queen returned to Wembley Stadium for two sold-out concerts the following summer, further cementing their connection to the venue. The mural was commissioned and curated by Claudio Giambrone, who wanted to create a new place for fans to gather and remember Mercury. He said that Freddie's relationship with Wembley goes far beyond just one famous performance.

Frank Styles explained that he tried to follow Mercury's own artistic style when creating the mural. Mercury was a trained graphic designer and cared deeply about how things looked, so Styles wanted to honor that attention to detail. The mural is free for everyone to visit and will remain in place until December 2026. The Spanish Steps connect Wembley Stadium and the OVO Arena, which used to be called Wembley Arena. Fans and visitors can come at any time to see the mural, take photos, and celebrate the life and music of Freddie Mercury. The artwork has already become a popular spot for Queen fans and art lovers alike, offering a new way to experience Mercury's legacy in a place that meant so much to him and his band.
