Jithin Laal, a director, used AI to help his team understand a complicated lock system for his movie. Arun Chandu, another filmmaker, used AI to create military scenes for his science fiction film on a very small budget. Sound designers are also using AI-powered tools to quickly add and edit sound effects. This means that last-minute ideas can be added to movies much faster than before.

However, not everyone is happy about the rise of AI in Indian cinema. Some filmmakers worry that AI cannot capture the emotional depth, cultural details, or human intuition that make movies special. For example, AI was used to change the ending of a popular film from sad to happy, without the original director’s permission. Others point out that AI often struggles with Indian languages and cultural references, so human experts are still needed to fix mistakes. There are also legal and ethical questions. India does not have clear laws about using AI to copy someone’s voice or face, especially after they have died. Some worry that AI could take jobs away from people who work in the film industry. Despite these concerns, many filmmakers are excited about the possibilities AI brings. Some are even teaching students how to use both AI and traditional methods to make movies, so they can see the strengths and weaknesses of each.
