Trump has also targeted America’s top trading partners. He raised tariffs on Canada from 25 percent to 35 percent, saying Canada was not doing enough to stop drugs from coming into the US. However, most Canadian goods are not affected because of a trade agreement called the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Tariffs on Mexico were paused for 90 days while the two countries continue to negotiate.

Some of Trump’s tariff decisions are connected to his efforts to end the war in Ukraine. He has threatened to put extra tariffs on countries that keep trading with Russia if there is no ceasefire. India is one of the countries affected, as Trump wants them to stop buying Russian oil. India called the move unfair and said it would protect its own interests.

Trump also wants to boost the US technology industry. He threatened to put a 100 percent tariff on foreign-made semiconductors, which are important parts used in electronics.
