The Erin Arts Centre is currently hosting a new exhibition called Rock Paper Canvas, which features a collection of 40 artworks created by a group of local artists. The artists involved in this show are Sally Black, Ongky Wijana, Ella Magee, Ellie Baker, and Helen Faragher. The exhibition is named Rock Paper Canvas to reflect the variety of materials used in the artworks, including stone, paper, and canvas. Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see a wide range of art forms, such as stone carvings, ink drawings, and landscape paintings. The show will be open to the public until 15 August, giving art lovers plenty of time to explore the diverse collection.
Ella Magee, one of the featured artists, described the exhibition as having a real sense of energy and excitement. She said that the group of works is truly eclectic, meaning that the pieces are very different from each other in style and subject. This variety is intentional, as the exhibition was designed to offer something for everyone. Some of the highlights include a painting of a breakwater at low tide, surrounded by a rocky landscape and a pier with a small light beacon. There are also paintings of boats on the water, dramatic skies, and a series of ten colorful fish heads set against an orange background. In addition to paintings, the exhibition includes ceramic bowls, one of which features a woman in a green dancing outfit, and others with faces painted on them.
The Rock Paper Canvas exhibition follows the recent success of the Six Ways of Seeing show at the House of Manannan, and five of the six artists from that event are also participating in this new display. The aim of the exhibition is to bring new artwork to another part of the Isle of Man and to showcase the diverse talents of the artists involved. Among the artworks on display are a stone slate with a Celtic cross design, a sculpture of a Loughtan sheep's head made from red clay, and a series of portraits of brushes in antique frames. There are also many colorful and monochromatic paintings and drawings that capture the beauty of Manx landscapes. Ongky Wijana's stone carvings are another highlight of the show. Ella Magee noted that it is rare to see such a wide range of styles and aesthetics in one exhibition, and she hopes that visitors will find the collection as exciting as she does.
