Thames Hospice in Maidenhead, Berkshire, recently became a filming location for the popular TV series Ted Lasso. The show, which is currently releasing its fourth season on Apple TV, used the hospice's Otter Wing to shoot several scenes last September. Ted Lasso is a well-loved comedy about a soccer coach and his team, and it has won many awards. The hospice's chief executive, Rachael de Caux, explained that renting out the unused wing to the show's cast and crew was a great way to bring in extra money. The hospice needs forty-four thousand pounds every day to provide care and support for its patients, so this extra income is very important.
Rachael de Caux said that everyone from the Ted Lasso team was very humble and down to earth. She was happy to see that there was no diva-like behavior from the actors or crew. She described the experience as exciting and said it showed that the hospice is a lively place, even though it is also a place where sad things can happen. The cast and crew were very professional and considerate, making sure not to disturb the staff or the people staying at the hospice. They used only the Otter Wing, which was separated from the rest of the building, so the filming did not affect the hospice's daily work. The production team transformed the wing in just a day and a half, making it look completely different for the show.
The hospice plans to use the Otter Wing for patient care again in the future, and more details will be announced later this year. While the Ted Lasso team was filming, the hospice also ran a special project involving elephant sculptures. One small elephant was painted in the blue and red colors of the show's soccer team, AFC Richmond, and signed by stars like Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham. This statue will be auctioned off in October to raise money for the hospice. In addition, thirty large elephant sculptures are on display in Windsor and Slough until September. After that, they will be sold to help the hospice continue its important work. The project shows how the hospice is finding creative ways to raise funds and stay connected with the community.
