' The original Shrek film was released in 2001 and won the first Oscar for best animated feature film. It was a massive success for DreamWorks, grossing $487 million worldwide. Shrek 2 followed in 2004, Shrek The Third in 2007, and Shrek Forever After in 2010. Shrek 5 will actually be the seventh film in the broader franchise, thanks to two spin-off films featuring Antonio Banderas' character, Puss In Boots, and Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. It's still unclear whether Banderas will return for Shrek 5. Eddie Murphy hinted in an interview last month that Donkey might also be getting his own spin-off movie. He mentioned that work on Shrek 5 began 'months ago. ' 'I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up,' he said. 'Shrek is coming out and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie.
