Recent studies suggest that reindeer may have a profound impact on preserving the entire ecosystem, including the snow cover, the open forest, and even the cold winter climate. The Arctic region, where Lapland is located, is experiencing a warming rate four times faster than the rest of the planet. However, reindeer may help mitigate some of these effects by grazing and trampling on plants, thereby preventing excessive growth and heat trapping.
