According to Hanna Kahlert, a senior analyst at Midia Research, YouTube’s success is not surprising. She explained that YouTube is now a basic part of life for many people who use the internet. More than seventy percent of people around the world use YouTube every week, and over half use it every day. YouTube makes money in different ways, such as showing ads or charging a monthly fee to remove them. This helps YouTube earn a lot from its huge audience.

In the last three months of 2025, YouTube’s global ad revenue was eleven point three eight billion dollars, which was less than what Wall Street expected. According to Ofcom, ninety-four percent of UK adults who use the internet visit YouTube, spending an average of fifty-one minutes a day on the platform.

Some experts say it is not fair to compare YouTube and Netflix directly because most of YouTube’s content is made by regular people, while Netflix’s shows are made by professionals in Hollywood. However, the competition between the two is getting closer, as both are trying to attract more viewers and creators. Netflix’s boss, Ted Sarandos, even said, ‘YouTube is TV’ during a Senate hearing in the US. Netflix is now working with popular YouTubers to create new content.

YouTube believes that creators are key to its future growth. Many creators, like MrBeast, have millions of fans and help bring in viewers. However, some creators are worried about new tools like Google’s AI Overviews, which show answers to questions without sending people to their videos. This could mean fewer people watch their content. The European Commission and the UK’s markets regulator are looking into ways to help creators and publishers have more control over how their work appears in Google’s AI products.
