Eddie Janssens is a huge Beatles fan from Brussels, Belgium. When he heard that Paul McCartney’s new album was named after Dungeon Lane, a street in Liverpool, he decided to travel there as soon as possible. Eddie wanted to be one of the first fans to visit the place that could become as famous as Abbey Road. He arrived in Liverpool on Thursday and asked his taxi driver to take him to Dungeon Lane in Speke, where Paul McCartney spent time as a child. Eddie wore red trousers, a black jacket, and a cap. He stood on the quiet street, smiling and making peace signs with his hands, excited to be in a place that might become legendary for Beatles fans.
Eddie explained that he loves how Paul McCartney chooses simple and meaningful places for his music, instead of famous locations like Times Square or Piccadilly Circus. He believes that is what makes Paul special. Eddie has visited Liverpool 20 times, always looking for new Beatles-related places to see. He feels proud to be one of the first people to visit Dungeon Lane after hearing about the new album. Paul McCartney’s 19th solo album will be released on May 29 and will explore his memories of growing up in Liverpool after World War II. Eddie thinks more fans will come to Dungeon Lane in the future, but he is happy to be among the first.
Eddie also shared that he met Paul McCartney in person in 2012, along with his daughter, after winning a radio contest. He said Paul was friendly and talked to his daughter like a regular person. Eddie described Paul as a simple, kind, and warm man. During his visit, Eddie also planned to attend the public funeral of Len Garry, a Merseybeat legend who played with Paul McCartney and John Lennon before the Beatles became famous. Len Garry passed away earlier this month at the age of 84. Eddie feels lucky to be part of these important moments in Beatles history and enjoys sharing his love for the band with others.
