Oli Steadman, who joined the band Stornoway after moving from South Africa, was impressed by the number of concerts, club nights, and recording studios in Oxford. Gary Smith, owner of Truck Music Store, believes that Oxford's mix of people from different backgrounds helps create a creative and artistic environment. Many people come to Oxford for various reasons and end up staying, forming bands and contributing to the city's musical success.

Ronan Munro, editor of Nightshift music magazine, says that Oxford's underdog status allows bands to develop away from the intense media spotlight. This gives artists time to grow and improve before facing national attention. Successful bands serve as role models for new musicians, encouraging them to aim higher. However, Oxford faces challenges, such as the closure of many music venues. The city council is working to support live music, and new acts like Elmiene and South Arcade are bringing fresh energy to the scene. There are concerns about the lack of gender diversity among successful artists, but Oxford's music community remains strong and continues to play an important role in the city's culture and economy. The city's achievements show that even a small place can have a big impact on the music world.
