Fifty-eight years later, astronauts on the Artemis II mission recreated this moment by taking a new photo called Earthset. During a seven-hour flyby of the Moon, the Artemis crew captured Earth dipping below the lunar surface. The image shows the bright blue and white colors of Earth, with clouds and oceans, while the Moon remains dry and full of craters. Unlike in 1968, today we have many satellites that take thousands of pictures of Earth every day. These satellites help scientists study the planet in many ways, but photos taken by astronauts still have a special meaning because they show the human perspective.

Experts say that the Earth has changed a lot since the first Earthrise photo. Human activities have transformed the land, with cities growing larger and forests being replaced by farms. Some lakes, like the Aral Sea, have shrunk or dried up. In Antarctica, large areas of ice have melted, and there is less snow in many parts of the world. Scientists believe that most of these changes are caused by people. Even though Earth looks beautiful from space, these photos remind us that we need to take care of our planet. The legacy of the Apollo 8 mission and the new Artemis photo encourage us to protect the Earth for future generations.
