Words like 'cycle syncing' and 'going luteal' are now part of everyday language for many young women. These terms help them understand the different phases of their menstrual cycle and how hormones affect their bodies. Many women also learn about conditions like PMOS, which can cause symptoms such as acne, irregular periods, and weight gain.

Iqra Wasim from Bristol started experiencing PMOS symptoms when she was just 11 years old. She learned about her condition by asking doctors questions and searching for information on social media. Now, she helps her mother, who also has PMOS, manage her symptoms. Iqra explained that her mother did not know about treatments like birth control and thought it was only for people who were sexually active. Iqra had to explain that birth control can help with PMOS symptoms, not just prevent pregnancy. She noticed that her mother's generation only talked about periods with family or doctors, but now, women can discuss these topics online and learn from each other. However, Iqra also believes that social media should not replace medical advice from professionals.

Caroline Herman and her daughter started a group in Wiltshire that donates period products to foodbanks. Caroline said there is still a lot of work to do to improve menstrual health education. She explained that in the past, people did not talk openly about periods, and there was a lot of silence around the topic. Now, there is more information available, but she worries that not all of it is accurate. Caroline also mentioned that some social media platforms block medically correct terms about periods, which makes it harder to talk openly. She believes it is important to use the right words and keep talking about menstrual health.

Beth Lauren from the Cotswolds is a mother of two boys. She thinks it is important to start conversations about periods with children when they are young, so it does not become a taboo subject. Beth teaches her sons about menstruation, just as she would teach a daughter. She said she did not know much about the different phases of the menstrual cycle until she had children. Most of her knowledge now comes from social media, but she tries to be careful about what she believes online.

Maisie Hill, who wrote books about periods, says that talking about periods is less of a taboo now. Many parents in their 30s and 40s are sharing new information with their children. Maisie thinks it is great that people are learning more about their bodies, but she wants schools and workplaces to do more to support women. She also said that people should not be dismissed as just anxious when they ask questions about their bodies.

Poppy Taylor, a researcher at the University of Bristol, found that some people start their periods as young as eight. Her study showed that up to one in five did not receive menstrual education in school until after they had started menstruating. Poppy believes it is important for everyone to learn about periods, so they can support themselves and others. She also said that talking more about menopause has helped open up conversations about other women's health issues. Poppy thinks that having more knowledge about your body helps you feel more prepared and confident.
