Apple, the renowned tech giant, recently announced the launch of a new iMac, MacBook Pros, and the third iteration of its proprietary Mac processor line. The highlight of the announcement was the introduction of a unique M3 chip, designed to enhance performance and graphics capabilities. This new chip is based on advanced 3-nanometer manufacturing technology, enabling it to handle graphics processing more efficiently. The base model of the chip features eight main cores, which function as the processing engines on a chip, along with 10 cores dedicated to graphics. In addition to this, Apple also unveiled the higher-end M3 Pro and M3 Max chips as part of a product unveiling event dubbed 'Scary Fast'. This event, which was unusually timed at 5pm California time, also saw the unveiling of new MacBook Pro models.

These new MacBook Pro models will be powered by the new processors. Apple announced a lower-end model priced at US$1,599, equipped with the standard M3 chip. They also revealed high-end versions that will run on M3 Pro and M3 Max configurations. The new chip technology is expected to make the new laptops more powerful while maintaining their 22-hour battery life. Apple also debuted a version of its 24-inch all-in-one iMac desktop computer that runs on the M3 chip.

Apple's in-house semiconductor business, known as Apple Silicon, has become a significant asset for the company. Since transitioning from Intel components to its own chips in 2020, Apple has witnessed a sharp increase in sales of its Mac computers, aided by a broader surge in tech spending during the pandemic. However, in recent quarters, Mac revenue began to decline again as competition in the market intensified. The launch of the M3 chip is intended to help Apple regain its competitive edge in the industry and put the Mac business back on track. Sales of the computers are projected to increase by about 5 per cent in the holiday quarter, with revenue expected to grow 5. 5 per cent in the financial year that began this month.
