Traditionally, most people think of Croatia as a summer destination, with its beautiful Adriatic coastline drawing visitors from all over the world. However, the Croatian government and tourism officials are working hard to change this image and encourage people to visit throughout the year.

Zagreb Advent is not just a single market in one location. Instead, it is a city-wide celebration that takes over many parts of the city center. Each area has its own unique theme, decorations, and activities, making it exciting for visitors to explore. There are plenty of classic Christmas market treats, like sausages and mulled wine, but also live music, art installations, craft stalls, and a huge ice skating rink. For example, the owner of a bistro called BioMania says that people who try their food at the market often visit the restaurant later.

Despite its success, Zagreb Advent is still relatively new compared to some of Europe's oldest and most famous Christmas markets. Markets in cities like Dresden, Vienna, and Cologne have been running for centuries and attract millions of visitors each year. For example, Cologne's market is expected to bring in an economic impact of 229 million euros. Still, Zagreb is quickly gaining a reputation as a must-visit destination for Christmas market lovers. People from all over Europe, including Italy, Spain, Bosnia, Slovenia, and the UK, are coming to experience the festive atmosphere.

Tourism experts say that Zagreb Advent has helped increase the number of overnight stays in the city during December, which is usually a quiet time for tourism in Croatia. However, they also warn that the country still relies too much on summer visitors. They suggest that Croatia should develop more events and attractions during other parts of the year, such as food festivals, carnivals, and sports events. The tourism minister agrees, saying that Croatia is working to become a year-round destination. He points out that while summer visitor numbers have stayed about the same, there has been growth in the number of tourists coming in June, September, and December.

Zagreb Advent is a great example of how a city can use a festive event to boost tourism and the local economy. With its variety of activities, delicious food, and lively atmosphere, it is no wonder that more and more people are choosing to visit Zagreb in December.
