ByteDance, the Chinese corporation that owns the popular app TikTok, is developing an open platform that will enable users to create their own chatbots. This move is part of ByteDance's efforts to advance in the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI), a sector that has seen intense competition since the launch of ChatGPT last year.

The 'bot development platform' is expected to be released as a public beta by the end of the month, as per an internal memo viewed by the Post. This initiative aligns with ByteDance's new strategic vision to 'explore new generative AI products and how they can integrate with the existing ones'. The company is also working on a text-to-image generator similar to Midjourney, as per a source familiar with the matter.

ByteDance, known for its innovative use of AI from its inception, is now venturing into the emerging market of offering large language models (LLMs) as a service. Several other tech giants, including OpenAI and Microsoft, have also ventured into this field. Last month, OpenAI began allowing all users to create custom versions of ChatGPT for specific tasks, without requiring any coding experience.
