Universal Music Group, one of the biggest music companies in the world, has turned down a takeover offer from billionaire investor Bill Ackman and his company, Pershing Square. Universal is famous for working with top artists like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Kendrick Lamar. The company said that Ackman's offer was not in the best interests of Universal, its shareholders, artists, fans, or other people who care about the company. Universal also said that the offer did not show the true value of the business, which owns famous labels like EMI and Island Records and runs the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

Pershing Square already owns a part of Universal Music Group, but in April, it tried to buy the whole company. If the deal had gone through, Universal would have become a new company listed in America. Right now, Universal is listed on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange. Bill Ackman said he wanted to help Universal's share price, which he thought was too low because of financial issues not related to the music business itself. He pointed out that one problem was that the Bolloré Group, owned by billionaire Vincent Bolloré, holds an 18 percent stake in Universal. Ackman also mentioned that Universal's decision to delay listing its shares on the New York Stock Exchange was holding the company back. Cyrille Bolloré, the CEO of Bolloré Group, did not support Ackman's offer and said it undervalued Universal.

Universal's board of directors said they have full confidence in the company's current strategy, led by CEO and chairman Sir Lucian Grainge. They promised to provide more detailed financial information in the future so that investors and others can better understand the company's value. Grainge said Universal is committed to leading the global music industry by signing top stars, innovating, and connecting with fans. He said the company will keep working to deliver long-term value and will give shareholders more insight into what drives Universal's success. The music industry has been growing thanks to streaming services, which have helped it recover from years of losses caused by piracy. However, there are still debates about how much streaming platforms pay artists, and the industry is also dealing with new challenges like fake songs made by artificial intelligence. Universal says it will keep working to solve these problems and stay at the top of the music world.
