Charlie Mulligan and Thomas Whittleton, two young men from Hull, are helping to bring Northern Soul to younger audiences. They founded Kingston Upon Soul, a club night that gives young people a place to enjoy soul music and dancing. Mulligan grew up hearing stories about the scene from his family, especially his uncle's dance moves. He says Northern Soul is his escape, making him feel lighter and happier. Whittleton noticed that most soul clubs in Hull had older crowds, so he wanted to create a space for young people. In cities like Manchester, the soul scene is thriving among young people, but Hull needed something similar.

Events like the Bridlington Soul Weekender show how Northern Soul still brings people together. Every year, about 2,000 people gather to dance and listen to soul music. Beth Armand, 25, traveled from Devon with her dad to attend. She admits she is probably the youngest person there, but she wants more young people to join. Amy Redhead, a DJ from Durham, was nervous at first but now loves dancing and hopes others will follow her lead. Pat Brady, a DJ who has been involved since he was 15, says Northern Soul is welcoming and wants more young people to come. He believes that if young people bring their friends, the scene will grow and stay alive.

Northern Soul is more than just music; it is about community and connection. Mulligan and Whittleton have hosted five events at Dive Bar in Hull, and the audience is growing every month. They say anyone can join, even if they do not know the music. It is important to respect the history but also bring new energy. Many people hope that young people will keep Northern Soul alive and make it even better in the future. The scene is adapting, and with more young people involved, it can continue to thrive for years to come.
