People used it to describe anything that was put together in a complicated or silly way.

While living in Cranleigh, Robinson built a studio in his garden so he could work without being disturbed. He even invented a speaking tube to the house so he could ask for tea or dinner without leaving his work. Robinson put his love for life and his sense of humor into every drawing. Even after his death in 1944, his influence continued. Many engineers, designers, and cartoonists have said that he inspired them. In 2016, the Heath Robinson Museum opened in Pinner, celebrating his life and work.
