Chris Smith, the director of WOMAD, said that they had to take a year off to rethink how the festival works. They moved to a new location and changed the way the festival is set up to make it more secure for the future. The changes seem to be working, as ticket sales are higher than ever before.

Other festivals are also trying new things. Summerfest, a new event in Weston-super-Mare, is hoping to bring back the excitement of past festivals like T4 on the Beach. The organizer, Ian Rogers, said that running the festival will cost about 3. 7 million pounds. They have booked popular acts like Sister Sledge, Craig David, and Dizzee Rascal. Even though more than 46,000 people showed interest in tickets, Rogers said that the cost of fuel is still a big problem. Everything at the festival has to be brought in by trucks, which use a lot of diesel. This makes everything more expensive, from the equipment to the food.

Simon Clarke, who runs the Shindig Festival in Wiltshire, said that planning for the future is very difficult because fuel prices change so often. His festival uses between 12,000 and 15,000 litres of diesel, which costs tens of thousands of pounds. Clarke said they can't switch to another type of fuel right now because the festival is happening soon. Even though costs are going up, he doesn't want to raise ticket prices for festival-goers. Instead, he hopes to sell more tickets to cover the extra costs.

Festivals are also trying to be more inclusive and accessible. Javeon McCarthy from Big Team CIC, a group that helps make festivals better for everyone, said that the cost of going to a festival is not just about the ticket. People also have to pay for travel, food, and drinks, which can make it too expensive for some. To help with this, organizers are looking for other ways to make money, like getting sponsors or selling more food and drinks, so they don't have to raise ticket prices.

Organizers are learning from these challenges and are trying to make festivals better and more sustainable. They want to keep the festivals going for many years to come. Even though there are many difficulties, people still love going to music festivals, and organizers are working hard to make sure these events can survive and grow in the future.
