The coffin was decorated with the famous paint-splattered artwork from The Stone Roses' debut album, a nod to Mani's musical legacy. Ian Brown led the tributes, describing Mani as a 'brother' and a 'beautiful human being. ' He said Mani could always find laughter, even in tough times, and was the life of any gathering. Brown's speech was broadcast to the crowd outside, many of whom wore Stone Roses T-shirts and bucket hats. He even suggested that Manchester should build a fifty-foot gold statue of Mani to honor his memory.

Hundreds of fans gathered outside the cathedral, applauding as the procession arrived. The event began with a group of scooter riders, reflecting Mani's love of Mod culture, and the song 'I Wanna Be Adored' played over speakers. Mani's coffin was also adorned with a Manchester United scarf and a wreath that read 'R Kid,' a term of affection in Manchester. Bobby Gillespie, the frontman of Primal Scream, also gave a heartfelt eulogy. He remembered first meeting Mani at the famous Hacienda nightclub and said Mani's positivity was contagious. Other Manchester music icons, like Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs from Oasis, Mike Joyce from The Smiths, and Peter Hook from New Order, attended the service. Bez from the Happy Mondays was also there, making the funeral a gathering of Manchester's musical greats.

Mani's bass playing was a key part of The Stone Roses' unique sound, especially on tracks like 'Fools Gold. ' The band was at the forefront of the 'Madchester' scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s, releasing their classic debut album in 1989. Songs like 'I Wanna Be Adored,' 'She Bangs The Drums,' and 'I Am The Resurrection' became anthems, with Mani's basslines at their core. After The Stone Roses split in 1996, Mani joined Primal Scream and played with them for 15 years, contributing to albums like 'Vanishing Point. ' He later reunited with The Stone Roses for a series of reunion concerts. Mani passed away at 63 due to respiratory issues linked to emphysema. His wife Imelda died in 2023, and they leave behind twin boys. Mani's influence on Manchester's music scene and his warm personality will be remembered by all who knew him.
