Joao, who is easily recognizable with his bald head and grey moustache, expresses his excitement about the festival, stating, 'Everyone is welcome,' and 'It's not just for the Portuguese community. ' This annual event has been a staple in the community for nearly 15 years, and its popularity continues to grow. Each day, around 1,000 people flock to the festival to celebrate and immerse themselves in Portuguese culture. On the opening day, the atmosphere was filled with joy as people gathered at wooden tables in a spacious field, enjoying the performances on stage. Joao has witnessed the festival's growth firsthand, noting that last year they had to limit the number of attendees due to the overwhelming turnout. He advises festival-goers to arrive early, as it operates on a 'first come, first served' basis. Joao also highlights the presence of several excellent Portuguese restaurants on the island, which contribute to the festival by providing delicious food and drinks for everyone to savor. In Jersey, approximately one in 11 residents identify as having Portuguese or Madeiran heritage, making this festival a significant event for the community. Anita De Andrade, who manages one of the food and drink stalls, shares her enthusiasm for the festival, stating, 'It's great fun' and 'It's wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves and bringing different cultures together. ' Anita, dressed in a black t-shirt with 'Dino Staff' printed on it, beams with joy as she serves festival attendees. She believes that the festival plays a crucial role in fostering connections among people from various backgrounds. Another highlight of the festival is the performance by Telmo Rodrigues, a talented Portuguese singer who traveled to Jersey specifically for this event. Telmo, dressed in a black jacket and blue polo shirt, expresses his excitement, saying, 'It was my first time in Jersey,' and 'I play pop Portuguese music. ' He is thrilled to see people dancing to his tunes and enjoying the lively atmosphere. The sun shone brightly on the festival grounds, creating a perfect backdrop for the celebration. Gilberto, another attendee, is seen smiling as he enjoys the festivities. He wears a grey-blue jacket and a long red scarf, adding to the colorful ambiance of the event.
