Ivy Hart, a remarkable 105-year-old woman, has shared her thoughts on how music has played a significant role in her long and fulfilling life. Living in a care home in Crewe, Ivy believes that singing has kept her youthful and vibrant. She has aspirations of performing a concert for her fellow residents, showcasing her love for music. Ivy has been quite vocal about her opinions on the entertainers brought in by the staff at Belong Crewe, expressing that she could easily match their talent. 'No they weren't good,' she remarked, adding, 'I very nearly put my name down. I would have done it any time. ' Ivy's wisdom extends to the younger generation, as she advises them to 'Take life as it comes' and 'Do the best you can with it. ' This advice encourages young people to embrace life and strive for their best in every situation. Ivy is often surrounded by her loving nieces, Pam and Kate, who cherish their time with her. 'My mother could sing but she's not like me - forthcoming,' Ivy chuckled, highlighting her own outgoing nature. In her mid-20s, Ivy met her husband, George, at a dance hall in Crewe. Pam, her niece, fondly remembers their relationship, saying, 'He was absolutely lovely. ' George worked for the RAF at Crewe Municipal Buildings, and although they later moved to Preston, he passed away a few years later. Throughout her life, Ivy's passion for singing never waned. She performed alongside the Rochdale Band at Nantwich Civic Hall in 1976, a memory she treasures. In her 50s, Ivy returned to Crewe and took on the role of a teacher at a school for boys with learning difficulties. 'I loved them to bits, those boys,' she reminisced, expressing her fondness for her students. Ivy continued to live independently until she reached the age of 104, when she made the decision to move into Belong Crewe. Emma Spurrier, a carer at the home, described Ivy as 'definitely a character,' emphasizing the joy she brings to those around her. Ivy's story is a testament to the power of music and the importance of cherishing our passions throughout life.
