When they failed to return the weapons on time, they were allegedly summoned to Kartel's residence in August 2011. During the trial, Chow testified that they were attacked, and the last thing he saw was Clive Williams lying motionless on the ground. Clive has not been seen alive since that day, and his body has never been recovered. Kartel, along with his co-defendants Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, has always claimed their innocence, yet they were convicted and sentenced to life in prison, with Kartel facing a minimum of 35 years. He initially appealed his conviction in Jamaica before taking his case to the Privy Council in London, which serves as the highest court of appeal for Jamaica and other Commonwealth nations. His defense team argued that a juror accused of attempting to bribe others should have been removed from the trial. The London court agreed with Kartel's argument, ruling in March that the decision not to dismiss the juror rendered the conviction unsafe. The judges stated that this was a serious issue that compromised the fairness of the trial. They also noted that Kartel's health had deteriorated after spending 13 years in custody. On Wednesday, Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop, one of the judges at Jamaica's Court of Appeal, explained that they had considered the serious nature of the offense, the time that had passed, the difficulty in accessing witnesses and evidence, and the significant costs associated with a retrial. She emphasized that Kartel's declining health would also be a factor in the decision, as a new trial could negatively impact his physical and mental well-being. Justice McDonald-Bishop concluded that the interests of justice did not necessitate a new trial, and she formally acquitted Kartel and his co-defendants. According to reports from the AFP news agency, there was heightened security at the courthouse in Kingston, Jamaica, and the hearing was closely monitored by the public. Vybz Kartel is recognized as one of Jamaica's most prominent artists, having collaborated with international stars such as Jay-Z, Eminem, and Rihanna. His most popular songs include 'Clarks,' 'Ramping Shop,' and 'Summer Time. ' His success has led him to launch various product lines, including shoes, alcohol, and condoms. Additionally, he became the first dancehall artist to star in his own reality TV show, 'Teacha's Pet. ' Seani B, a DJ and presenter, remarked that Kartel's release marks a significant day for Jamaica, dancehall music, and the Jamaican judicial system. He stated, 'He's easily one of the biggest dancehall artists in Jamaica. ' Seani noted that over the past 14 years, Kartel has become even more infamous, and now that he is free, he is returning to a music scene that has been waiting for him. He mentioned that there is a new generation of dancehall fans eager for Vybz Kartel's return to the music industry.
