The Boardmasters festival in Newquay has attracted many first-time festival goers who are excited about the music, the seaside, and the camping experience. Kaleb, a 19-year-old from Tottenham, traveled overnight from London to attend the festival with his friends. He said they were drawn by the festival line-up and wanted to try something new before they all went their separate ways. Kaleb was looking forward to spending five days camping, enjoying the south west of England, and making memories with his friends.
Lillah, who is 18 and from the Forest of Dean, also traveled to Boardmasters for the first time. She and her friends saw the festival as a chance to have a trip together before starting university. Lillah said she was especially excited to see the main acts perform. Her group arrived early to get a good spot for their tent, knowing the festival would get crowded. They planned to stick together since none of them had been to a festival before and wanted to look out for each other.
Other first-timers, like Lilly from Newton Abbott, were also eager to experience the festival. Lilly brought a large tent for herself and her friend, saying she wanted to be able to say she had been to a festival. She was looking forward to seeing artists like Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah, and Lilly Allen. Lilly and her friends were careful to stay together and keep safe among the thousands of festival-goers. Will, a 17-year-old from Surrey, was excited to relax by the sea and watch the surfing when there was no music.
Boardmasters director Rob Spring said his team worked hard to make sure everyone at the festival, as well as the local community, felt safe. The festival worked closely with the police, coastguard, ambulance service, and local councils to ensure safety. Spring said it was important to be a good neighbor to Newquay and that organizers listened to the community’s concerns. The festival featured large crowds, bright lights, and live music performances, creating a lively and memorable atmosphere for everyone. Many young people were happy to be at the festival for the first time, enjoying the music, the beach, and the chance to spend time with friends before starting new chapters in their lives.
