The town council is preparing to send a letter to the government to officially announce their bid for the Town of Culture title. Councillor Andy Walker is one of the people leading the effort. He believes Bridlington has a lot to offer, from its rich history to its modern culture. Walker describes Bridlington as a beautiful and diverse seaside town. He thinks the Old Town and the quay give Bridlington a special advantage over other towns. The town also has a connection to the famous artist David Hockney, who lived and worked there. Walker is proud of Bridlington’s history, music, and the way the town has kept up with modern times.

Mark Lonsdale, the general manager at Bridlington Spa, says the town is already a cultural destination. He believes that winning the Town of Culture title will make Bridlington even more attractive to visitors and locals. The winner of the competition will receive a prize of three million pounds, while the runners-up will get two hundred and fifty thousand pounds each. Lonsdale says that the prize money would be a big help for the town. Bridlington will be competing against other towns like Pocklington and possibly Grimsby. However, Lonsdale does not see it as a tough competition. He thinks all the towns work together and that whoever wins will deserve it.

Angela Langton, who helps organize the town’s food festival, also supports the bid. She comes from a family that has lived in Bridlington for a long time and is proud of the town’s history. The food festival is now in its fourth year and brings many food vendors to the town center. Langton also runs other events and hopes to continue them in the future. She says Bridlington is improving every year, with more investment and activities. She believes the town deserves to win the title. Towns have until the end of March to express their interest in the competition. The first Town of Culture will be announced in 2028, and the winning town will host a year-long celebration of its culture. People in Bridlington are excited and hopeful that their town will be chosen.
