She said it was wonderful to see David finally celebrated in Guernsey, as he had been famous internationally but not as well known locally. Ellie hopes the plaque will help people in Guernsey learn about David's achievements and feel proud of their local talent. She also mentioned that the plaque is especially meaningful because it coincides with an exhibition about David's life at the Candie Museum, making it feel like he is finally being welcomed home.

David's life was not without challenges. In 1988, during the height of the AIDS epidemic in the UK, he contracted the virus and sadly passed away. Despite this, his legacy continues to inspire many. The blue plaque scheme in Guernsey is designed to honour individuals who have made important contributions to the island and beyond. David's sister, Wendy Hugh, shared that he would have been both humbled and thrilled by the honour. She described David as someone who was always at the centre of his family and friends, and who had a burning passion to be recognised for his art and poetry. Wendy expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the plaque a reality, saying it is a wonderful way to remember David and his impact.

The location of the blue plaque was chosen because it is close to The Little Theatre, where David first appeared on stage. This makes the tribute even more special, as it connects his early beginnings with his lasting legacy.
