Etsy bought Depop in 2021 as part of a plan to compete with big online retailers like Amazon. However, Etsy has since changed its strategy and is selling some of the companies it bought. For example, Etsy sold Elo7, a Brazilian online marketplace, at a loss after buying it for $217 million. Etsy also decided to sell Reverb, a music equipment resale site, to focus on its main business. Etsy became very popular during the Covid-19 pandemic because more people were shopping online, but now it faces more competition from companies like Temu and Shein, which offer cheaper products and fast delivery.
