The city council recently announced that the museum's reopening has been delayed again, and it is now expected to welcome visitors in the summer of 2026 instead of this year.

The Hull Maritime project is not just about the museum. It also includes the restoration of the former North End Shipyard on the River Hull, which will become a new visitor attraction. Queen's Gardens, another important site in the city, is also being redeveloped as part of the project. The museum itself is starting to take shape, with workers fitting out the rooms and installing new exhibits. People can see workers in high visibility jackets using nail guns and power tools to put up wood panels and build new displays.

The city council says the museum will use interactive technology, graphics, and audio-visual elements to make Hull's maritime stories come alive. Council leader Mike Ross believes this is a unique opportunity to transform the museum and create something special for both residents and tourists. The new galleries and exhibits will help people learn about Hull's rich history with the sea in a fun and engaging way. The project also includes modern attractions like the Arctic Corsair, which will be part of the new visitor experience. When the museum reopens, it will offer a fresh look at Hull's maritime past and present, making it a must-see destination for everyone.
