Oxford has launched a new grassroots music fund to support local musicians, promoters, and venues after several popular music spots in the city closed in recent years. Two grants of five thousand pounds each will be given to music venues, while about ten grants of one thousand pounds each will go to musicians and promoters. This money can be used to cover costs like rehearsal spaces, which are often expensive but essential for musicians to practice and improve their skills.

Local singer-songwriter Emma Hunter said she was pleasantly surprised by the news of the fund. She plans to apply for a grant to help pay for her next album. Emma believes that the fund will encourage people from all backgrounds to get involved in music, especially since rehearsal spaces are one of the biggest expenses for musicians. She said that a good rehearsal studio is very valuable and that the fund could help more people afford to practice and record their music.

Emma also hopes that the fund will help new music grow in Oxford and give more people the chance to become successful musicians. She said that if the city doesn’t invest in grassroots music, there won’t be any music legends in the future.
