Rumana Yasmin, the founder of Bok Bok Books in Middlesbrough, explained that the project is not only about reflecting on the past and where the women and their families came from. It is also about celebrating the contributions they make to their new communities. She mentioned that Middlesbrough experienced riots last year, but this art project brings hope and shows that there is a strong sense of solidarity and support among people. These women shared their stories, which were then transformed into beautiful tapestries. Some of the tapestries show scenes like a person lying in bed, painted with bright colors such as green, yellow, blue, and red. Others depict buildings and greenery, using colors like yellow, red, and blue. Lou Scholes, the creative producer at Borderlands, said that the artwork is powerful and full of passion. The stories told through the tapestries are about courage, resilience, and the importance of preserving culture.
