Their act lasted for three years, during which they managed to sign with Sony, appear on MTV, party with celebrities like Madonna, and even tour with Eminem.

The film was shot in various locations across Scotland, including Dundee and the iconic Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. Séamus McLean Ross and Samuel Bottomley star as Bain and Boyd, bringing the story of these ambitious young men to life. James McAvoy directed the film with the help of a talented Scottish cast and crew. He expressed his excitement about premiering the film in Glasgow, saying it felt right to bring the movie back home for its UK debut. McAvoy described California Schemin' as an unbelievable true story about identity, ambition, fame, and the sacrifices people make to achieve their dreams.

The Glasgow Film Festival, now in its 21st year, will run from 25 February to 8 March, with California Schemin' wrapping up the event. Paul Gallagher, the festival's head of programme, said he was thrilled to close the festival with a homegrown story that deserves international attention. He praised McAvoy's dedication to the project, noting the film's emotional depth, humorous characters, and energetic performances. The movie was produced by Blazing Griffin, a Glasgow-based company, and received support from the National Lottery and Screen Scotland. Audiences are eager to see McAvoy's first film as a director and to discover the incredible journey of two Scottish rappers who risked everything to chase their dreams.
