Anderson says this event was a turning point in his life and that it will always affect him. He grew up in Magherafelt, County Londonderry, and his father, Willie Anderson, was a famous rugby player. Anderson also talks about his experience as a gay man. He did not meet any gay people when he was young, but he realized he was gay and started telling people when he moved to Washington DC. His father was supportive and open-minded, making the process easier for him. Anderson still returns to Northern Ireland every year to spend Christmas with his family.
