Fort Paull, a historical site located on Battery Road in Hull, is set to reopen its gates this weekend after being closed for four long years. This heritage site has a rich history that dates back to the 16th Century and played a significant role during World War Two as a storage facility for ammunition. The reopening event will feature a classic American car show, which is a nod to the past events that took place at the fort. The gates will be open on both Saturday and Sunday, with the main car show happening on Sunday, September 29. This reopening is a moment of joy for many who have missed visiting this unique attraction. nnThe previous owner of Fort Paull, Brian Rushworth, was dismissed from his position by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council earlier this year. Following this, a new caretaker named Nick Taylor, who is a former Royal Marine, was brought on board in October. He joined forces with Nick Moore, who had been campaigning to keep Fort Paull open for the public. Together, they received permission from Mr. Rushworth to reopen the fort as a visitor attraction, which will also include a museum showcasing the site's historical significance. nnAfter months of careful planning, the reopening will kick off with a special car show featuring over 100 classic cars. In addition to the car show, the tunnels at Fort Paull will also be accessible to the public. The fort's construction began in 1542, with further enhancements made during the English Civil War. The Ministry of Defence sold the site in 1960, and it was later taken over by the Friends of Fort Paull group, which opened it to visitors. The site officially became a museum in 2000, focusing on the past 500 years of conflict, complete with various exhibits and aircraft displays. Mr. Taylor expressed his excitement about the future of Fort Paull, as they plan to host more events, including a Halloween ghost walk, a Christmas fayre, and a 1940s weekend.
