The group ScotsRock wants to take over the Centre for Contemporary Arts on Sauchiehall Street and turn it into a special place to celebrate Scotland’s rich music history. Midge Ure, known for his work with Ultravox and as a key figure in Band Aid and Live Aid, has agreed to be the first Patron of ScotsRock. Other big names supporting the project include Lulu, Jim Kerr from Simple Minds, Travis, and Del Amitri.

The idea has sparked a huge response from the public, who were asked to suggest which artists should be included in the Hall of Fame. The list of suggestions is long and impressive. Some of the most popular choices are Big Country, led by Stuart Adamson, who were famous in the 1980s for their unique sound. Annie Lennox, who found fame with Eurythmics and later as a solo artist, is also a top pick. The Bay City Rollers, known as the 'tartan teen sensations' of the 1970s, were nominated by many fans who remember their global success and catchy hits like 'Bye, Bye, Baby. '

Other bands and artists mentioned include Skids, a punk and new wave band from Dunfermline, and Primal Scream, who became known for their ever-changing musical style. Fish, the lead singer of Marillion, was praised for his powerful voice and songwriting. Simple Minds, who sold over 60 million albums and had the hit 'Don’t You (Forget About Me),' are seen as a must for the Hall of Fame. Gerry Rafferty, famous for 'Baker Street,' was also suggested, as was Callum Beattie, a newer artist admired for his talent and kindness. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, known for their theatrical performances, and Lewis Capaldi, who topped charts with 'Someone You Loved,' were also popular choices.

The list continues with The Jesus and Mary Chain, Emeli Sande, Nazareth, Cocteau Twins, The Proclaimers, AC/DC, Deacon Blue, Runrig, Aztec Camera, Leslie Rankine, Del Amitri, and Wet Wet Wet. Each of these artists has made a significant contribution to Scottish music, whether through chart-topping hits, unique styles, or inspiring live performances. Fans believe that a Hall of Fame would not only honor these musicians but also attract tourists and boost Glasgow’s music scene.
