Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the world’s largest festival of Irish music and culture, is taking place in Belfast for the first time ever. The Fleadh is organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, a group that has been promoting Irish music and culture since 1951. Every year, the Fleadh is held in a different city or town, but this is only the second time it has come to Northern Ireland. The last time was in 2013 in Londonderry, which attracted huge crowds. The festival is often called the Olympics of Irish traditional music because musicians from all over the world come to compete. The Lord Mayor of Belfast says the Fleadh is a great opportunity to show off the city’s culture, history, and hospitality.
