Because of these challenges, the organizers have decided to pause the main festival and focus on smaller, more specialized events. These smaller events will include literature evenings and activities that are easier to organize and fund. The goal is to keep the spirit of the festival alive and make it stronger for the future. The organizers believe that by taking a break and focusing on smaller events, they can attract new groups of readers and writers and build more interest in literature on the island. They are also planning a sponsored read in May, where people can read books and raise money to support the festival. The festival has always aimed to inspire local talent and encourage people of all ages to enjoy reading and writing. Helen Jessopp said that she is especially passionate about getting young people involved. She believes that reading from a young age is very important and that it helps to spark imagination and creativity. The festival has organized workshops for writers, poetry nights, and author visits to schools to help people develop their love for literature. The idea for the festival came from John Quirk, the former director, who wanted to bring authors to the Isle of Man because it is not always easy for people to travel to big festivals in other places. He wanted to create an event that everyone on the island could enjoy. The organizers are committed to making the festival accessible and affordable for everyone. They want to make sure that people from all backgrounds and with all kinds of interests can take part, whether they enjoy crime stories, mysteries, fiction, or non-fiction. They believe that the arts are very important, even when people are facing higher costs of living and may have other priorities. By offering events that are easy to attend and low-cost, they hope to keep the love of reading and writing alive in the community. The Manx LitFest is expected to return in 2027, with provisional dates set for 28 September to 3 October. In the meantime, the organizers will continue to plan smaller events and encourage people to get involved. They hope that by taking this break and focusing on new ideas, the festival will come back even stronger and continue to inspire people on the Isle of Man for many years to come.
