Ireland has announced a new and unique program to support artists called the Basic Income for the Arts. To be eligible, artists must live in Ireland, be professional artists, and have a creative practice mainly based in Ireland. The selection process will be anonymous and random, so everyone has an equal chance. The Department of Culture expects a lot of applications, but only 2,000 artists will be chosen. Those who are not selected can try again in the next round in 2029. The government hopes this program will support a wide range of artists and help the arts sector grow stronger.
