A remarkable guitar that was once owned by Noel Gallagher, a member of the iconic band Oasis, has recently been sold for an impressive sum of over £130,000. This particular guitar, known as an Epiphone Les Paul standard electric guitar, gained fame for its appearance in the music video for Oasis's debut single 'Supersonic'. It was not only featured in the video but was also played by Gallagher during many of the band's early live performances. These performances took place in various locations, including the Boardwalk in Manchester, Gleneagles in Scotland, and Water Rats in London. The auction was conducted by Sotheby's, a well-known auction house, which had initially estimated the guitar's selling price to be between £60,000 and £80,000. However, the final sale price exceeded all expectations, reaching a staggering £132,000. This auction comes on the heels of the Gallagher brothers' recent announcement regarding a potential reunion after their public split in 2009. Fans were thrilled when tickets for Oasis's upcoming concerts went on sale at the end of August, leading to a surge in demand. The guitar holds significant historical value as it was used by Noel Gallagher during the recording sessions for Oasis's first album, 'Definitely Maybe', which was completed in 1994. Before the final recording took place at Sawmills Studio, Gallagher had utilized this guitar in various sessions at Out Of The Blue Studios in Manchester and Monnow Valley Studios in Wales. Additionally, the guitar was prominently featured in the cover artwork for their debut single and was one of four guitars that Gallagher sold during Sotheby's inaugural popular culture auction. Two other guitars that Gallagher had used also fetched impressive prices. One of them, an Epiphone EA-250 electric guitar, sold for £48,000, significantly higher than its estimated value of £20,000 to £30,000. Another guitar, a 1980 Gibson Flying V that was previously owned by The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and used by Gallagher in the recording of the track 'Cigarettes and Alcohol', sold for £36,000. Katherine Schofield, the head of popular culture at Sotheby's, expressed her excitement about the auction, stating that it was a fitting tribute to celebrate not only the 30th Anniversary of 'Definitely Maybe' but also the recent announcement of the long-awaited Oasis reunion. She remarked that it was thrilling to witness such strong and competitive bidding for these culturally significant guitars that were once played by Noel Gallagher.
