The Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum, located near Sleaford in Lincolnshire, is set to reopen after being closed for three months for important repairs and maintenance. The museum, which first opened in 1992, celebrates the history of RAF Cranwell, a famous officer training college. The closure began in December 2025, but now the museum is ready to welcome visitors back with new and improved features. The reopening ceremony will take place on Good Friday at 10:00 BST, and the local council is excited to show off the changes. Richard Wright, the leader of North Kesteven District Council, said that the museum now offers an enhanced experience and he hopes people will enjoy everything the site has to offer.

One of the highlights of the museum is its displays about the people who served in the Royal Air Force. There are black-and-white photographs of RAF personnel who received honors like the Victoria Cross. Each photo is displayed with information about the person’s life, the medals they received, and their service. For example, Leslie Thomas Manser, who was born in 1922 and died in 1942, is remembered for his bravery and was awarded the Victoria Cross. These displays help visitors learn about the sacrifices and achievements of those who served in the RAF.

The museum has also added new attractions to make visits more interesting. Volunteers at RAF Cranwell are restoring a BAC Jet Provost, a jet trainer aircraft that was used from 1955 to 1993. The museum now features a virtual reality experience, allowing visitors to feel what it’s like to fly an aircraft. The shop and cafe have been upgraded, making the museum more comfortable and welcoming. There is also an updated aviation heritage trail, which guides visitors through the history of aviation in Lincolnshire. This trail includes active RAF stations, former airfields, and the International Bomber Command Centre. The museum will be open from Friday to Monday, between 10:00 and 15:00 BST, giving everyone a chance to explore and learn about the region’s rich aviation history.
