Margot, a six-year-old girl from Haslemere in Surrey, has become the winner of a national art competition designed to encourage families to visit local galleries. The competition, called the Subtle Art of Family, was organized by Clarendon Fine Art and received more than 1,000 entries from children across the country. Margot's artwork was chosen as the winner by Doug Hyde, a well-known artist, after she first won the local round of the contest. The goal of the competition was to show that art galleries can be fun and welcoming places for families and children. Margot was thrilled and surprised when she found out she had won. She said, 'Did I really win? ' and her parents were just as amazed. As a prize, Margot and her family will get a special art consultation, where they can choose a piece of art worth up to £2,500. Margot said she would like to pick a painting that reminds her of going on walks with her grandmother in Cornwall. Margot has loved painting since she was very young. She explained, 'When I was younger I couldn't stop painting. I started when I was zero or one, and I just discovered it, and now I have filled up tonnes, and tonnes, and tonnes of notepads. ' Her mother, Katrina, said she was 'enormously proud' of Margot, and her father, Nick, added, 'Margot actually loves art and she loves drawing and it's so nice to actually see her win a prize for doing something that she loves to do. ' The manager of Clarendon Fine Art in Haslemere, Linnet Bird, said Margot's painting stood out because of its bright colors, energy, and the way she included dogs in her artwork. Doug Hyde, the artist who judged the competition, said, 'Margot's work was a piece I would enjoy seeing every day and never get bored of - a painting full of life, personality and genuine feeling. ' Margot is not the only young artist who has been recognized for her talent. Other children, like April, Maidah, and Sophia, have also won art prizes for their creative work. April drew a picture of a girl sleeping in a bed, Maidah created a drawing of two friends looking at the Emerald City with hot air balloons in the sky, and Sophia painted cars driving up a road with colorful buildings on each side. These competitions give children a chance to express themselves and share their ideas with others. They also help families spend time together and enjoy art in new ways. Margot's story shows that anyone, no matter how young, can create something special and be recognized for their talent. She hopes to keep painting and inspiring other children to try art as well. Maybe one day, more children will see their own artwork hanging in a gallery, just like Margot.
